Introduction
Kim Ji-hoon (b. 1985) reveals his view of humanity abstractly through various colors and layers in his work. Through his ongoing series, Fragile Man, the artist has depicted how humans exist within society. In this series, colors with good visibility were incorporated into his abstract series, Dancing Line, aiming to expand the formal interpretation of narrative from representational work. By using diverse colors, he seeks to reflect the individuality of the members of society and to shape the complexity of modern society through intersecting layers. The formal elements predominantly used by the artist serve as signals replacing human figures within the painting. By employing the infinite interpretive possibilities of abstract painting as a methodological approach, the artist hopes that society as seen through his eyes and through others' perspectives will be interpreted differently in each unique way. The artist spends considerable time on the color combinations used in painting from a color theory perspective and determines the color and formal structure through numerous sketch drawings before creating the final work. The randomness of dripping serves as an emotional means to resolve the tension created by previously painted layers. This dripping process is carefully prepared in advance, with considerations for position, paint quantity, and speed, aiming to closely match the existing sketches.
